The beauty of the wild is irreplaceable. I had an amazing time visiting one of Kenya’s unexplored parks in Tana River County.  Kora National Park is the 3rd largest Park in Kenya after Tsavo East and Tsavo West and is perhaps, the hall mark of Kenya’s conservation.

Sites and sounds that make Kora a unique destination are the mesmerising sunsets, whispering palm trees and  a land mark rock famed for hosting lions in the 80’s.

The vast park neighbours Mwingi National Park is home of one of the greatest conservation stories of the late George and Joy Adamson. Rich in history and inspiring the award selling book and film Born Free.

George devoted his life to Wildlife conservation giving his all to conservation efforts in Kora. It his here that he met his death  by falling to a bandit’s bullet. Still unexplored this park holds lots of potential.

Modern day conservationists are looking for ways to open up Kora to the world and we caught it on camera. Look out for a video of my experience there.

Keep it Knowella

Did you know that every year, we have a water bird census right here in Kenya? Well this year has brought a lot of new opportunities. Each day I’m slowly embracing what nature has to offer and this time, my travel escapades have led me to appreciate the beauty of Kenya’s rich abundance of birds.

                               Bird Watching

Birds are bio indicators of the environment and help tell environmental trends.Bird watching is a great experience for anyone who cares to try it out. I must admit I was hesitant at first but with every chirp, rich colour combination and diverse birds’ species in Kenya,  I am slowly warming up to bird watching as a pastime.

Kenya is very rich in terms of diversity having 10% of the world’s population with approximately 10,000 species worldwide. Imagine the wide range of birds we have that until recently I  didn’t even take notice of. Lucky for me, Kenya has bird lovers at Nature Kenya which has something for everyone.

Superb Sterling034

Superb sterling is a beautiful orange-chested bird with a touch of deep blue. The hue reminds me of the waters of the Indian Ocean and is one of the common birds that I can remember off the top of my head. I must admit it took me about 2 days to remember the name.

The flamingo is always a sight for sore eyes with the greater flamingo being my favourite. Look out for my experience at a fowl census in one of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley lakes.
